SOUL FOOD JUNKIES: A DOCUMENTARY FILM RECOMMENTATION

Cornbread, collard greens, macaroni and cheese...
Cornbread, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, yams, and sweet tea. Almost makes me weep for home. This is a place called Hollywood Inn, and I've been going there for about fifteen years. It's just about a block down from the WC Handy home. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Soul Food Junkies
Byron Hurt Producer/Director

Whenever the topic of soul food comes up there are always a lot of opinions about what dishes are a part of that cuisine, how healthy a diet of fried foods and sugar is for our bodies, and why this food tradition continues to be handed down from generation to generation.

I liked Soul Food Junkies because Hurt did a very nice job of connecting the different dots regarding this aspect of our culture.

Byron Hurt presents a nice spectrum of information on the relationship that we have with soul food and what social, historical, and economic factors are connected to this cuisine.

Soul food cooking is cooking from the heart and to the detriment of it......but man it is so very good.
