GIL SCOTT HERON AND BRIAN JACKSON: A PRAYER FOR EVERYBODY

This post is respectfully dedicated to all the families who have lost loved ones in the global community.

Violence never makes sense to people who think in a rational and sane manner.  Even if we knew the reason why anyone is motivated to take the lives of other people, it will never make sense.

I watched with my mother and oldest son as the events that occurred today in Connecticut unfolded on the television screen.  So many lives were ended during a violent rampage.

It came to mind that this type of horror unleashes itself throughout the world on a daily basis.  We are conditioned to expect some manner of trauma during a 24 hour cycle of life.

Even as I am composing this post there is blood letting occurring.  Someone's life has ended due to violence and the painful reality of this moment is spiraling through their circle of family and friends.

We have to better than this.  We cannot continue to debate about the reasons why or accept justification without demanding that some form of change occur.

While we've been debating, people have been dying and unfortunately they will continue to die.

.....maybe we're not better than this?!?

We're Americans, we are violence personified.

There is a part of me that acknowledges the truth in your statement; We're Americans, we are violence personified.
However, there is another side of me that has grown tired of the cycle of senseless killings.

How many more generations of people will die because we cannot get our business straight about guns?
