I meant to wish everyone Merry Christmas on Friday. I was planning to jump on my laptop and post a seasonal greeting after my family departed. Quite frankly, I was too tired to do so.
Three of my five grandchildren are under the age of three. They wore me out during the time that they were here. Last year, two of them were not walking and they did their holiday in a stationary position. They looked really cute sitting in their carriers.
This year-they are mobile and busy as all get out. From the moment they hit the door they were in motion. To add on the confusion and chaos, one of the girls received a guitar as a present from her maternal grandmother. A guitar that not only plays music-this torture device makes animal noises too. As a grandmother, I can appreciate the motivation behind such a toy. It is our job to purchase annoying toys that will never be used at our homes. It is our way to pay back our children for all their annoying toy requests over the years. I just never expected that noisy little thing to invade my space. The girls seemed to really like the meow sound. It played a whole lot during their visit.
We have breakfast on Christmas Day. My three sons have always had hefty appetites. So do their children! These people can eat! They dined and drank orange juice and my Pepsi like it was the last time they would have a meal. I don't do any soft drinks before one in the afternoon. My system rejects the idea of anything cold and fizzy. I had my usual cup of coffee as I re-directed my grandies away from my things.
I have a six year old granddaughter who is pretty laid back. This year she reminded me of Angelica on the Rug Rats. The "babies" as she calls her toddler cousins were driving her nuts too! She was trying to be cool and gracious, but that is difficult when your one year and two year cousins are zipping around ringing bells, making noise and having a good time at the expense of their other family members.
My teenage granddaughter had her i-pod going and she spent a lot of time mentally wandering away from the gathering. Which was fine with me. But great-grandma is not pro-technology. So she caught the blues about the ear plugs frequently. I consider this to be a typical 21st Century teenager.
When everyone left and I finally had the opportunity to sit down. I was exhausted! Happy that things had went fairly well. I accidentally over cooked the Turkey Sausage links. Otherwise, there were no major disasters.
Thank goodness Christmas only comes once a year! I don't know if a sista in her mature years could hang!

I'm exhausted just reading about your Christmas day gathering. I remember the days when I used to go to family gatherings and there were tiny children everywhere! Screaming and running like pint-sized maniacs! LMAO! I usually took me 2 or 3 days to decompress!
Glad to hear that you had a wonderful holiday. So many people get caught up in the gifts that they forget that xmas is about spending time with the family. I love hearing about family gatherings and the sharing of love.
The best thing about Christmas for me is after my children have wrapped their gifts and I can sit back and eat a nice big leisurely breakfast. Take at least a half hour to eat it......that's just perfect to me. Filled with satisfaction, good food and good coffee.
