GO TYRA! YOU ARE FIERCE TODAY!

Tyra Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm sitting here watching Tyra with tears in my eyes. Today's show really touched my heart strings. She has teamed with Aeropostale to give away 100,00 coats to children. She also reminded viewers that there are 13 million homeless children living in the United States. The teens in the audience received coats and so have other children in NYC.

Then there were the teens and young women who were featured as guests. Tyra did some kind of good for these young people. She provided help to a family who had lost their mother and the oldest child took over raising the family. A nanny for a year, groceries for a year and a way for the oldest sib to attend nursing school to improve her financial status. Plus goods and services that the family can use to make life better for them. (source)

A girl with bone cancer received an artificial leg and a human hair wig. Plus a vacation package because this family has been totally involved in helping to save the teenager's life.

There were other families featured who received needed help from Tyra. I happen to like these type of shows. A little boy who received a coat was so humble about the gift. He said, "I know somebody cares about me out there." That might not seem like a lot to us. But when you really do not have the things that you need in life and they come. With no strings attached and on time-you've got to feel good.

I know that people often criticize Tyra and other celebrities for their actions. But in this case she deserves some recognition for her gift giving. I was moved by all the guests on the show. They are people who are facing very difficult obstacles in life. it is good to see that someone is using their influence to reach out and touch others.

I suspect that there will be those who will "hate" on her for doing this saying that she's trying to be like Oprah. And in doing so, the will have completely missed the point and the opportunity to do something more...to give back! Kudos and a Much Obliged to Tyra!

it IS encouraging to see celebrities do good with their money, but it seems fake when they put it on tv. Like that old Miller beer ad when they showed the trucks full of water bottled in Miller bottles showing up in a community that had been torn apart by a flood, hurting the water supply. Miller spent more money advertising the fact that they did this wonderful thing than they did actually DOING the wonderful thing.

I was at my local food pantry today - not as a volunteer, but as a client - and I saw shelves that did not have as much food as they should to feed the ever-growing number of people who need assistance. I think it would be nice if Tyra and Oprah and some others who spend a lot of time shouting about their good works simply put that time (and money) into local agencies meeting local needs, I might feel more kindly toward them. That's the view from here today...

Dawn,

Food Banks nationwide are having a difficult time with supplies. The demand has increased. Why not write to Oprah or Tyra and raise your point? There are also websites that you can visit to learn how to help out your local food bank. Who knows? You might be the champion that people in your area need right now.

I think that when high profile individuals do good~we need to be equally as chatty. A lot of talk went into her weave out day. Since we don't do weave~it was of no concern to me. But this was a good thing. A lot of young people received things that they needed and will hopefully change their lives.

I keep forgetting to record her shows. I am hearing nothing but good things about Tyra, these days. From what I know about her, she seems to have her heart in the right place.
