Today I am dedicating my post to the children of the world.
Lately there have been too many stories in the news about children who have been murdered. Children who are missing. Children who need the basic essentials of life and have no access to them. Or they reside in households where violence often greets them on a daily basis.
We are the elders in this village. We are the ones who have the responsibility to make our neighborhoods places where they feel safe. Places where they can grow and learn to be productive individuals. We seem to falling short on this end of what is needed.
We live in a nation that proudly boasts that Children Are Our Future! Yet, we do not treat them as if they are a precious living commodity. We often ignore their needs or we are quick to criticize them for conditions that they did not create. It seems like we often forget that they are not empowered yet to make those changes in their lives.
During this week, I hope that you remember our children in your positive thoughts and prayers. They need us to be there for them. They need our unconditional love and understanding to help them to grow up.
