The current wave of Red Baiting in this nation needs to be realistically addressed.
Obama is not the first African American to be accused of trying to bring a socialist agenda into America. He is just one among many people of color who were labeled as anti-American by the conservative based forces.
Here is a small list of African Americans who were investigated or blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

Each of these individuals made a major contribution to improving the lives of African Americans and the overall society. This is just a small list of people.
The use of red baiting is an old tactic. It is meant to scare people into believing that socialism will completely over take the nations politics and lifestyle.

Yes, it's nothing new. Is there anything ever new and has never been tried and tested when it comes to Black folks? Most notably, Martin Luther KIng Jr. was also labeled a communist and was under much scrutiny of the FBI and CIA as such.
It's so funny that "certain people" have been popping up on my blog lately (the one about Van Jones)and are of the opinion that it's not a racist move. But like you said, they've done this a time or two in our history, but some people are oblivious to this.
It is amazing that when all else fails the red label comes out. And then, after our "red" heroes are dead and gone they become great Americans. Just like MLK who was too young to make this list. Amazing! Simply amazing!
Red baiting has taken the place of race baiting because racism is no longer socially acceptable. However, anyone with a discerning mind can see through what is happening.
But at this time, they are grasping at straws. They are throwing everything at the wall and hoping it sticks. I just wish that the public would wake up and see what is happening. Or perhaps they know and are so blinded by their own racism, refuse to be placated.
